Ilfotec-HC or HC-110

I did a quick search but didn't seem to find much in the way of comparing these two developers to one another. Most other sources I've found say that these are similar but not exactly the same. Of these two, which would you choose for HP5 @800 and @1600. At this point in time, kodak seems like a cheaper option so any reason to choose ilford?

FWIW, I also like the look of Tri-x but have never been able to figure out the curl which is a pain in scanning.

I've never used Ilfotec but HC-110 is what I've used for years. You know the logistic reason for both: ease of use, and more. But HC-110 give you a little loss of speed, and not as sharp as say Rodinal but a very smooth and the way I use it a soft look. Because these two developers are so close in formula, I doubt whether you will see any difference between the two.

This was taken with a Kodak Duaflex (which has no aperture or shutter adjustments), so basically a box camera. But you can see there is a softness and the tones are all there and very smooth in transition. Even with this basic camera you can achieve full tones, good middle tones, white whites, and full shadow detail. Give either of them a try; if these are qualities that you want.

They're virtually identical. Ilfotec HC is Ilford's copy of Kodak HC-110, just as ID-11 is Ilford's copy of Kodak D-76.

Buy the one you can get most easily at the best price.

To remove curl, tape sharp corners, roll emulsion out in 4" circle. Place in mail tube or clip edges with clothes pins in sprocket hole area, two pins, one per side. Alternative is roll some cardboard and make a fixture.

Wait 24 to 48 hours.

Cut in strips, place in neg sleves, weight with book to get the last little bit out.

I've used both and there's no difference other than Ilfotech is clear and HC110 is yellow.

Does this help with curl side to side? The biggest problem I have is that it wants to form a half pipe.

That's my problem too. I either have to leave the negatives in Print Files with weight on them for 6 months or scan differently. I use the plastic holder that came with my V500. But I use Better Scanning's ANG for 35mm. My trick which isn't a trick is to put the negatives in the holder emulsion side down. When the glass is put on them they are now flat. You do have to flip horizontally in post though: and extra step.
