and I'm still not sure where I'll spend all of the two weeks I'm there. I have a bed for the first couple of nights and maybe another bed later, but do not want to strain these fine people for too long with my presence.
if any of you have an insider's tip for a good hostel or affordable hotel or even a bed for a night or two, I'd be very thankful.
I will have gear and stuff with me, which leaves me not very keen on sleeping in 18 bed dorms or the like...
any other tips or suggestions are also welcome!

I spent a few evenings in Vancouver earlier this year but can't recommend anything in terms of photography or accomodation. But in case you are close to Denman St, you might try Vera's Burger Shack for a nice piece of meat. I'd definitely recommend Kingyo, also on Denman - it was so good, we went there twice.

Simon, do you ever swing through the New York area on your trip? Or otherwise? If you're down in Philadelphia, PA ever you're welcome to crash here.
Have fun out in Vancouver. I lived in the Pacific NW for 3 years and loved it. Gorgeous light there unlike anywhere else.
Michaelbialecki: I've been looking for some RFF members in SE Asia to network with. I plan on taking a long trip next year and touring Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. For maybe 6 months, hopefully.
A few of my friends from school are going to Thailand in a few months to teach. I'm hoping to join them in the spring.

Simon,
If you were coming to Vancouver, Washington, you'd be just across the river from me and I'd let you crash on the sofa in my house. However, I'm sure you are actually going to be in Vancouver, Canada, which is not near where I live.
That being said, I'll actually be in Bellingham, WA, which is about 50 miles south of Vancouver and an hour's drive from there. My 21 yr old daughter is running the half marathon they're having in Bellingham the weekend of September 24th. It's supposed to be beautiful where the marathon is being run (close to Bellingham Bay), and I'll be taking pictures as welll as cheering my daughter on.
If you want to take a side trip and meet us there, that would be fine with me.

thanks for the tip, nephilim!
hey phil,
I hope the print still looks good on your wall?
my original plan was to stay in nyc for a week and then head on to vancouver but it turned out to be too expensive for me right now, so I'm flying directly from london to vancouver. I want to travel pretty much everywhere though...

Hi Phil, I lived in Vietnam for 7 months, and have been to Cambodia and Laos numerous times.......and I've been living in Bangkok for about 4 years.......so let me know if you have any questions......you can PM me.....I have met many rff members that come out to Bangkok....always good times.....but to be honest, Myanmar is the place to go to.......
cheers, michael
Simon, I've never been to Vancouver so cannot help with accommodation suggestions there (hopefully some of the local members will come through for you), but you know you've got couch space here when you visit Tokyo next year. Have a great trip to Vancouver!

Try the YMCA in downtown Vancouver. Great location, very affordable and very secure. And while you're there, look up Tom Abrahamsson!

And while you're in Vancouver, take the ferry over to Victoria and look up Quinton Gordon at http://www.luzgallery.com/

Hi Simon:
The Youth Hostel on Jericho Beach is affordable and in an excellent location. As far as *reasonably priced* hotels, you can try the Sylvia Hotel in the West End. It is right on Sunset beach, is quite affordable, and puts you right in the heart of the action.
