my hands are shaking as i sit here typing away and my 'new' canon g2 is sitting right next to me.

i bought gene's 'old' g2 and am now officially a digital owner.
up till this point i was a digital borrower.

up till now i also had the excuse that 'it wasn't my camera' or it 'was too small & i would never buy one like this' when i couldn't take a decent photo with one.

but we have all seen some of gene's fine work with this exact camera so now there is no excuse. it all falls on me.

and by the way, i have to warn you folks about gene and how he does business.
he told me this was a used camera in good shape. it's not.

it still looks brand spankin' new!

i find it hard to believe anyone used this cameralet alone carried it around almost daily for a few years. i can't find a mark on it.

i think if i was a dog i would want to hang around gene's dinner table waiting for the scraps. i'd be eating like a king!!
many thanks gene!

joe

From a Canon P to a Canon G... Joe, you have a weird sense of the alphabet.

Heck, and I'm green with envy!! ;) Wait 'til I get my hands on a Nikon D70! :D

Congratulations, indeed, Joe. I've seen those cameras and they should be fun to use. In fact, a friend of mine in Central Camera told me that was one of the best digital P&S there is.

Just one thing, Joe, please... Use the viewfinder, not the little screen when you compose. Please, don't look into the back of the camera, do it through the viewfinder.

Again, congratulations!!

Joe

Once you start "chimping", I'll lose a lot of respect for you.....

You do know what chimping is, right? It's a digital term.

Russ

yes russ, i have heard that term and know what it means.

my plan is to not use the view screen at all when shooting, except for self portraits.
i'm planning a series of nude self portraits that i will not post but will send out to those on my special email list.
did you still want me to keep your name on the list russ?
h* said you did!!

That day it fell into the Credit River all the crud got washed off it ... I did tell you about that ... didn't I ?? LOL :D

Seriously, enjoy it Joe! It's a good digicam. I often enjoyed using it Rollei style, flipping out the panel and looking down at it.

The first chimpanze behaviour I can think of is...well, let's just say I wouldn't want to see it in our forum. I saw enough of it during the last election:)

I've been toying with the idea of getting a digital camera. Primarily for my wife, (no really), but I would use it a little also. I decided the Canon G2 would be perfect. Of course I'd want the black one, they look cooler. It has all those fancy modes, and you can turn it to manual and set your own fancy mode.

Good luck with it joe. And when all those Canon Ps start to gather dust, remember the good folks at RFF.

Dern tootin'! I get all hot & bothered just thinking about it...

Russ

sometimes you scare me russ...;)

You won't be so scared when your Neopan 400CN arrives. Sharona is going to mail it very soon. I assume that you want extra styrofoam peanuts in the packaging...

Russ

Congrats, Joe.

You've got to tell us your experiences with the G2 and show us some of the results.

Chimping! That's the term I was looking for!! :)

How are you doing with the user's manual, Joe? How thick is it? Just wondering...

I bet the Canon P was mastered in a couple of hours... :p

I wish I had my new toy with me too...

Congratulations, Joe! I can't really share any user secrets, since I've used mine so little... and that only with the lens fixed to the widest position and of course using only the optical viewfinder!

I downloaded and read a PDF version of the manual before receiving the G from the seller, but I retained only enough by the time it arrived to peform the most basic chores. I need to go through that manual again with the camera in my hands, and "sing along" so to speak....

Geez I didn't have to read the manual before using the Bessa-T...

Have fun!

Et Tu, BackAlley, Et Tu...

I thought there was someone on Earth safe from this Plague. Even my Mom has a Digital Camera.

I use a Digital for the Camera and Coffee shots. It is a 1996 Kodak DC50. No LCD screen, just optical zoom-finder. My D1x at work has an LCD screen, but you use it for review: no realtime mode. THEY HAVE TO PAY ME TO USE IT.

"Told you I did. Reckless is he. Now, matters are worse."

"That boy was our last hope."

"No. There is another."

Stu :)

It gets mighty cold during those long winter nights with the howling winds way out there on the Canadian prairie. Things'll look different in the light of day, Joe. ;)
