I'm Back 35

Yet, we have digital backs for medium format cameras.

Correct. At least these put an actual image sensor at the film plane! Medium format cameras make this task easier than 35mm cameras. Still, MF digital backs have major drawbacks, for example very small sensor size (relative to film size). On a 6x7 camera this gets comical. There are very few digital sensors that can even fully cover the smallest of medium formats (6x4.5). This limits versatility and lens choices.

For the last two decades, many pro photographers moved from medium format film to full frame digital, or to new, "medium format digital" cameras that offer barely-bigger-than-35mm sensor size.

But now... it seems quite a few pro photographers, at least in the fashion industry, are returning to medium format film!

Ansel Adams was instrumental in improving the quality of printing photographs in books and other media. He would be deep into the digital world if he was still around, but I doubt he would still have given up on film, especially 4x5 and larger.

The inventor loves old cameras. I read about it when first introduced. It is similar in concept to a Nikon E3 that focused the light down to a smaller sensor and a Nikon Speed Magny Back that adapts the Nikon F to a full-frame Polaroid using 107 and 108 pack film.

Silicon Filmworks EFS-1 (I think that is it) tried to make a sensor to fit in a film cannister over 20 years ago. I read a "Post Mortem" stating that getting a battery to fit was a huge problem.

aw, I always wondered what happened to that - i read about it back in the day, and shortly afterwards gave up photography until a few years ago. i've been periodically baffled by how digital cameras work ever since i restarted ("surely they had that sensor-thing you could just stick into a film camera, years ago". LOL). Thanks for clearing that up.

I mostly use old film lenses on my cameras, so I'd buy something like this if it could be made to work to a decent standard, had a full frame sensor etc. But then I'm amateur intrigued by gadgets, with not a lot of money, but more money than sense I guess haha.

1/2.3-inch sensor and some unknown quality macro lens.... This bulky attachment is cool tool to test film cameras without film. Any one have seem full size pictures from it?
