After hardly taking a single photograph all year (excluding about 5000 digital snaps) I am beginning to feel the stirrings of a little worm in my ear just beginning to incline me towards fishing out the HP5 that's in a drawer somewhere, loading up the M3 and heading out with a summicron or zeiss for a bit of playtime.

Like the OP I've taken long breaks from anything photographic. I just get tired.
Right now I'm still taking photo but I feel the passion just isn't there.

Maybe a timeout is due?

It's an awesome feeling when this happens. About 8 years ago, I hadn't photographed for the previous 9 years (after going to school for photography). Then one day, I just started seeing stuff again that I wanted to photograph. Been photographing a lot ever since then.

Ive taken a break also.
Started to print instead, but now after printing without taking any picture for 6 months or so, Im noticing how crappy my images are, so I need to start shooting again so I have something to print.. LOL

Sounds familiar.
With DSLR I do some manipulating, but it is kind of ... Menu.
With M4-2 it is much more pleasing. Advancing to next frame feel.

Sometimes I switch to Smena-8m, it requires more steps to get the picture.
But nothing beats taking photo with LF camera 🙂

I'm rather in the opposite trend. So busy with work and kids, and the days are getting shorter. 🙁

Off work and out last week during the day with my two year old daughter, I got some great shots of her and of the fall colours, and sometimes both. However, between now and Christmas I will be lucky to find time to shoot much at all. It is especially painful as I drive to work surrounded by autumn leaves and slowly lifting fog, knowing that soon that same drive will be fully in the dark.

I hope these forced days without the camera release some pent up artistry when I finally take my next proper vacation!

Austerby, glad to hear the bug has bitten you again. Hope you get out and make some nice pictures!

i've traded photography for house cleaning...at least the latter leaves me feeling somewhat satisfied...

Joe, house cleaning probably pays better than 95% of photography jobs.

Well, I did it: for the first time in months, I took a camera out with me with the express purpose of taking photographs. It has been a lovely, atmospheric foggy day in London, full of mists and mellow fruitfulness, so I loaded some HP5 into my M3, stuck my Summar on the front and took it with me when I walked the dog in the local park this morning. Lovely to just be using the camera again, no electronics, no immediate gratification. I thought the elderly Summar with its soft elements and low contrast should be interesting with today's weather and even if the photos don't come out well I've thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.
