I'm going to check out an S2 on Saturday. What should I watch out for?

I recently picked up the CV 28/3.5 as my modern Nikon RF/Contax 28, but haven't had a chance to really form an opinion. Its reputation is very good, however.

All of them are under $600, but you'd have to ask about availability.

I don't think there is much difference between the performance, build or weight of the two Voigtlander lenses. I don't know where you are, but Photo Village in NYC has the 21, 25 and 28 in stock for 389, 369 and 299. (Or at least Rich's website says they are in stock.)
 
IMHO, the 21mm Biogon is one of the best reasons to use the C/S mount. At the present low prices, and with some patience, you could probably get one within your budget.
 
Regarding the accessory shoe diopter correction device I referenced earlier, it was made by Nikon for the pre-S2 models like the I, M and S. It's was fully variable for different diopter powers and even had the effect of increasing magnification as well. It won't work on the later models due to a change in their shoe position.
 
I just saw mention of the diopter correction eyepiece for the S2 -- are they hard to get? Is there an alternative? I love my S2 -- but my eyes are not as good as they once were. I can put on reading glasses while I shoot -- but hey, I'm vain...
 
I like a 28mm in combination with the standard 50mm, so I picked a Voigtlander 3.5/28mm for my Nikon S3. This is really a fine lens as a wide 'carry around' (example below). If you also need something wider, then 21mm would be a good fit as an available addition.

I've never seen them for sale anywhere else, nor am I aware of any alternatives. It can't hurt to ask the seller how much he wants for them.

As for the price, I suspect they will be quite expensive. If you don't want to wear glasses, how about some contact lenses? Eye relief with glasses is not always perfect, although I can't tell about the S2. Anyone wants to comment about eye relief with glasses using the S2?
 
Try measuring as exact possible, the outer diameter of the camera's eyepiece and report back. The design of the Nikon S2 diopter corrector is a slip-on device similar to the Megapearls eyepiece adapter for the Konica Hexar RF and with luck, it might work. The Nikon diopter correction lenses were probably only a few bucks back in the day.

I got the CV 25/4 in Nikon S mount because I love it so much in LTM. Optically they are twins, sharp, flair resistant, great ergonomics (fstop adjustment on outside of lens), small, all the good stuff. Much less expensive than the Nikkor. IMHO the build is fine and should outlast the original snap-shot version. I also had a 35/2.5 and it's the same. Only reason I do not have her any more is because I got a Nikkor 35/1.8. Sold her to great guy I know here in town.

The perfect kit for a S2 is a CV 25/4 and a Nikkor 50/1.4 and a Nikkor 105/2.5 deep in the bag for times when you need reach out a bit more.
