I spent a week in Las Vegas one night, but how do you stay 3 days in New York and only 1 night. I didn't read all the posts, but this bothers me.
Have a good Trip???

For food, I have to recommend around midtown on 9th Avenue (Hell's Kitchen). Tons of great places to eat - my favorite places there are Old San Juan for Puerto Rican/Argentinean/Spanish, Vynl for Thai/American. Avoid 5 Napkin Burger. Great places in the West Village are Ditch Plains, Grey Dog (it gets super busy around lunch time), Otto (real close to where you are staying), and City Winery.
As for the museums, yes, there is a suggest entrance fee, but since the state has been cutting cutting its budget everywhere, if you can afford it, I think it would be good to try and help support the arts. Museums are not in a good state right now when the arts are needed.

An FYI, Rock Centre charges $20 for the observation deck.
When I was young, you could just take the elevator up and walk out, no formality or anything. You could look down and get a great view of St. Pat. Great scenes of all over Manhattan and out in Queens.

I'd check out St. John the Divine Church on 110th and Amsterdam Ave. It's a great church to see in person, and right near Columbia University, if that interests you at all. I use to walk there all the time when at school at Columbia. Worth seeing if you are in the Upper West Side.

Just this guy, you know?

And, if that interestes you: go to the Cloisters while you are at it.

And if you're there (St. John) on the 8th or 9th of Dec. you can attend Sting's concerts in the Basilica.
