Having style and creating interesting images is what this is all about. One good photograph no more makes you a great photographer than one good at bat makes a baseball player an MVP. The great all had a style. I get hired for my commercial work because of it. I get exhibits with my personal work because of it. If you want the right people to take yo uand your work seriously at some point you are going to have to address it.
I read from one of the greats one time he would rather make crappy images that look like his than pretty pictures that look like everyone else's.
No one is saying it's about being famous it's about creating interesting work that is the way you see the world and if you are doing that it shouldn't look like all the other stuff out there. It should be about the way you see the world not imitating the way others see it. When you imitate you are just a cheap imitation and that is surely nothing special. Anyone can do that. Just have a look around. To see and show the world in a way that only you can do it consistently is really special.
I think easy to read photographs are just that. You see it, you get and you move on. Nothing to go back to. No holding power. Nothing special. Vision to see beyond that takes a lot of time to develop. To see it in others work and your own work means learning to really see. The photo shouldn't have to be explained to another visual artist if those elements are in the work. Your aunt saw it in Dali's work. The big question you should be asking yourself is why didn't you see it? Maybe you should spend more time with your aunt.
When we start seeing a little of Ko.Fe. in Ko.Fe.'s work then you are starting to arrive. But it will never get there if you don't put the work into it.
