I spent a couple of weeks weighing the XP1 vs M8. In the end, I really wanted to use all of my Leica glass as it was intended. From my reading, I doubt that I'd be happy with manual focus on the XP1. I have an X100 so I know what a PITA manual focus is, doesn't sound like that's changed on the XP1.

I've been using the M8 as my primary camera for 2+ years now, my DSLR back-up has been in the hands of my teenage daughter during this time (yes, w/ frequent inspections ;-)). Occasionally I switch over to a NEX-5 with ltm-M adapter, since I can flip up the viewing screen and use it like a TLR (sans reversed image), but otherwise I've had a much better experience with the M8 than any other I've shot with over the years - warts and all.
WRT the Fuji XP1, if it had an articulated screen, I'd be sorely tempted especially with the M adapter on the horizon. The NEX has it's own share of issues and replacing it is a more likely scenario for me.
Good luck with your M8.

Just out of curiosity, has anybody here been tempted by the Fuji XP1 ?
very curious, now especially with M-adapter coming. dont like bigger crop factor (to M8). and doubts about MF-lenses (might want to start with body only). but Fuji sensor and lenses, and rangefinder looks are appealing.

Congrats, to the new and old M8 users. I’ve had mine for almost a year and I think it’s great. I sold mine and bought it back a few months ago and I’m very pleased.

No. I'm M through and through (though I do have a supplemental GRD IV).

Yes. It has replaced my M9 as my main camera. I'll be putting my M9 up for sale either tonight or tomorrow. Getting away from "leica glass" has been liberating.

Yeah, you probably have a bit of money to play around with now. Myself, I'm a bit tempted to give up the X100 and monkey around with an OM-D.

I did a very intensive comparison as I was looking for a body to put my long R glass on. I compared the Xpro, OMD and NEX 7.
The NEX was far too small and P&S like for my taste, the OMD was great concept and I would have gone for it were it not for the quality limitations of a Micro 4/3rds sensor and the XPro was by far the best in image quality and I was really impressed - until I found the kludgy implementation of focussing
manually and the lack of focus peaking. An XPro 2 might be an interesting proposition but this one is too immature for me.

Welcome to the club! I love mine and don't regret the purchase. Have a great time with it. Looks great with the type IV Summicron with the rectangle hood!
