I'm sorry, but I had to share this photo

I'm sorry, but I had to post this picture and deal with the guilt of posting it later on.

This gentleman had brought this behemoth of a lens to a street party - hip hop, skate boarding, graffiti... etc He also carried the luggage for the lens behind him as you can see. He did not have a monopod or a tripod.

I took this picture from the hip - it was almost an instinctual reflex. I did not make the picture to ridicule him. He was an extremely interesting subject.

There's a guy on another forum who looks like this guy, except he's even worse. I can't help but feel like hiding under the sofa when I read his posts. That's how silly he is.

The guy in question is a newbie and now has gone "pro" and can't stop talking about it. The quality of his pics is debatable and his Pro level too. He is now in Japan and, believe it or not, he brang 2 bags of gear totalling 24.7 Kilos (55 pounds!!!) only to shoot tourist stuff and people walking up and down a corner... I can't believe it.

Viva Leica is all I have to say!

I'm not sure I understand the point of posting the photo of a stranger with a DSLR on a RF forum so that people could take pot shots at his choice of camera. That seems a little petty to me.

The point is so that people could take pot shots at his choice of camera.

...dunno about the rolling camera luggage...but i know when i used to work music or jetski or various "festivals" one of my "money shot" lenses was a 300mm f2.8 on my Leica R5 and the other was a 35mm f2 on my M4-2.

i think the saying is "different horses for different courses. 🙂

the long, fast lens shot wide open was unsurpassed for really tight shots of a specific subject and the wide was perfect for great overall coverage or for a bit less overall (using the zoom function of my shoes) to include lots of "stuff" up close.

just a few thoughts. 🙂

Some of the lens is out of the frame in my shot but this lens was HUGE! And also awkward because the front barrel/hood was the size of a bucket.

Here is how this lens looks like and now imagine hanging that around your neck and going about doing street photography.

Really, it's up to people to choose the stuff they are using.
We also don't like when people are dismissive on our x-ty years old camera gear that "doesn't even zoom"!

i don't know, maybe he's actually a photographer, who goes out with whatever gear he might have chosen, and actually takes decent photographs with it, worthy of being taken. which is more than can be said about some of the stuff posted at certain photoforums...

Its not a question of elitism, it was just an observation.

That camera and lens combo is worth $10,000 so his the elite in this case.

elitism doesn't have anything do with price. its being a snob and just having a single view of everything and denigrating anyone who doesn't share your view. somehow i don't see the OP meaning to do that. he is just trying to convey how different folks have different methods to their madness..err photography.

It looks a bit lighter and smaller than my F2A with MD-2/MB-1 and 300/4.5 Nikkor-H with the Nikon 72mm Polarizer and Hood. I've never bothered with a tripod for it.
