My Leica Standard ((the black one, which still needs nice Leitz glass to replace the horrid I-50)) is looking a bit naked these days.

I found a case on the bay, that apparently fits Leica ltm's including the standard, but on measuring wouldn't be correct for mine, being about 1cm too long, and too tall as well.

Other than a custom job by Oleg, has anyone come across cases for the Leica Standard or Leica-I's at a fair price??

I've been meaning to use the camera more often, but I hate to take it out without protection over the body. :)

why not buy an old Zorki I with a case? Then you'd not only have a case, but also a beater camera for hazmat duty!

hm you might have found a case for a IIIc to g which were bigger due to the casted body. Keep looking for a case, and buy and Industar 26 which is far better than any other lenses (except maybe a summitar...) Oh btw, fsu lenses often need shimming to perform correctly on Leicas, have you modified it?

Erik, I don't know if the Zorki-I case will fit correctly.

Stéphane, I've had a bunch of fsu lenses, but I'd like to try and match a Leica lens to the camera now. Besides, the I-26 won't collapse :)

I don't think a Standard has strap lugs...

Case for a II, III or an early FSU camera will fit. There are some Leica cases still about but the stitching is likely to be dodgy. Beware that some don't have a retaining screw or hole, they work on being a tight fit.

One for a II or clone will not have they slow speeds cutaway and will look neater.
Try the Russian option, they seem to be pretty indestructable.

Early Leicas came in a sort of pouch with a clip to hold the rangefinder in place on the flap...not exactly ERC.

Hi Ash
Genuine Leica cases come in all sort of sorts and sizes. I don't think they were all made by the same firm, certainly not from the same sort of leather. I've looked at the 3 I have and my IIIA seems to fit them all. Interestingly the cutouts at the back are all different.

I have quite a nice one going spare. It does have the space at the top in which to either pack your lunch or your rangefinder but I think that would be in keeping with your Standard. The straps are a bit worn and might need replacing at some time but are adequate now. There is a screw fixing at the bottom.

The case is yours if you would like it.

Yeah Ash, didn't you once post a pic of that beautifully aged leather pouch that came with your Standard? I love the look of that pouch, looks like my dad's old pipe tobacco pouch.

Noel, Michael,
My Standard has buddha ears

F2eyelevel,
I meant to say in my original post that I didn't want a Luigi case if I could help it, and Kully's Luigi strap came loose last meet!!

J,
that would be wonderful, thankyou :)

Steve,
Yes I did, but the purse is no good for easy shooting (fiddly to remove), and provides zero protection for the camera :(

Here's a shot with the 'original' worn purse, super quick snapshot just now. excuse the bad composition!

Check the screw thread will fit before posting, you can get an adapter but that will only work one way...

Noel

My Standard has the continental hole in it, so an adapter (if needed) will work the right way :)

Has the string been collimated for a non standard flange of is it later standardised string?

Nice camera, congratulations,

Michael

Nice camera, congratulations,

Michael
Thanks :)
When I saw it last autumn, I HAD to buy it, and I had a job at the time which helped!! Very nice cameras, if a little niche!

back to the basics in a way... I'd love to have one, a nice black camera, with a couple of dents on the black paint... so nice... otherwise a Minox 35 which is basically the same concept!

Yes, lovely cameras, I'm using a 'I' at the moment 10,xxx. Fixed Elmar.

It 'falls to hand' in an extraordinry way and fits easily in a pocket. Unfortunately no lugs, so no string. Looks rough.

Although the glass is clear it seems to need a lens hood more than I would have thought...

Michael

Thanks to Jesse1Dog my desire has been satisfied :D :D

Here's a perfect-fitting case on my Standard. In my excitement the pictures aren't all that great, but you get the idea :)

The top half is HUGE; almost the size of the bottom half again! Now I need to find a way to hold some 35mm film in there, and maybe source a shoe-rangefinder for the holder in the case :)

EDIT: Yes, the tripod/mount screw is as big as the lens! :D

Hi Ash

That case looks better than when I sent it to you - nice photos and after Fid's doing things on the lawn it looks in pretty good nick to me!
