A web friend of mine has offered me a very-nearly-mint black G2 kit (body, 28, 45, 90, hoods, caps, filters, flash) for US$1300, and since I've become hooked on my Hexar AF, I'm seriously considering dumping a little gear and moving in here part-time. (Don't tell the guys on the M forum.)

I'm sure his gear is in perfectly working condition, but I wonder a little what happens when it stops being that way, should it ever. With Leicas, there're lots of techs and lots of parts: what happens when the heavily-electronic G2 seizes up?
 
Sounds a very good price - especially since you can trust the source.

I get the impression that places to repair the G cameras are a little thin on the ground...didn't even think about it before I bought mine and with prices still falling on the bodies, I may pick up another 'just in case'.

I don't think I even have a camera that would be economically viable to repair...maybe the F3...if any of them died, it would just be cheaper to get another used one to replace it...
Different for the Leica models I guess.

Have to say I like my G2 a lot - a well made tool for the job - and I enjoy using it. The F3 is the only camera I've used that gives me the same feeling...and the G2 has it beat in many ways.

Here in Europe contax is serviced for years to come. In case that won,t work I bought a second body for a few euro's. By the way I use those things for years and never needed a repair. They really are for heavy use.
 
To answer your original post: In the US, either ToCAD America, or KEH.

Same issue with your Hexar, btw. :)
 
And just to keep it in perspective, you can get another G body for about the same price as a Leica CLA by DAG or Sherry.
 
Yeah, exactly, thanks. I need to get some stuff out the door and buy that kit.
