Does the physically smaller Voigtlander 29/0.8 m43 lens produce a brighter image than the physically larger 35mm Canon 50/1.0 lens - each wide open. Spreading gathered light onto a larger sensor would seem to reduce image brightness!

Which glass gathers more light comparing them at max 0.8 and 1.0 apertures? (AI says f0.8 gathers 58% more light than a f1.0)

Which is sharper wide open?

I’m asking because if the Voigtlander is brighter, that’s a plus.

If the Voit is brighter + has a more manageable DOF, 1.6 vs 1.0, it would be easier to manually focus. (DOF for m43 29/f0.8 lens, at 9ft from subject is 2.86” - pretty easy focus).

If the 2 are close in sharpness wide open, it would appear to be big Voigtlander wins.

I see the genius and value of the new glass technology created to produce a better focusing m43 f0.8 lens-
