Sometimes I see the "Image pending approval" message for newly posted classifieds. That seems to make sense. But when I see this message in ads placed by sponsors, I don't see how it makes sense. Worse, I looked at an ad by Precision Camera, and saw "Image Pending Approval;" and the item was already sold! Curious and curiouser! What is up with this?

Maybe one of the mods would know why this happens. As an example, there is an ad up right now for a 90mm Summicron ASPH. The lens is already sold, yet the images haven't been approved for display yet. Either some things sell awfully fast, or else it takes a long time to get approval. Funny thing is, when I put an ad up, the images are available right away. But when one of the sponsors has an ad, it may still be "pending approval" indefinitely. If I were a sponsor, I wouldn't like that!

Just curious . . .

It just means the ad has expired i.e. the period of time specified for "How long do you want your ad to run?" when creating the ad has finished. The same thing happens when an ad is placed on hold.
