Not sure where to put this question, I hope it is OK here.

What is the trick to get some images to rotate when they are posted? The image is right side up on screen on my iPad, yet when I upload, it reverts back to the way it was originally shot.

See the attached portrait of LeBron that I took 16 years ago when LeBron was a high school student and I was a newspaper staffer. The copy of the newspaper page was shot horizontally, rotated to vertical on the iPad and uploaded. But it displays horizontally.

Any ideas?

The image orientation is determined by a field in the EXIF data. I once had a similar issue with an early version of the Hipstamatic app on the iPad. My fix was to import the image in a photo editing app on the iPad and adjust the orientation prior to uploading the file. I use the app called Filterstorm, but there are many others out there.

I think this problem happens if you shoot with the tablet's onboard camera and it isn't upright but near horizontal, as when shooting down on a table; the tablet's orientation sensor doesn't know which way is up.

It is possible that the you have the iPad switching orientation and that might be confusing things. I would open the Photos app. You should be seeing thumbnails of all the images. Tap on the chosen image to enlarge it to full view. Pick the sliders icon (third on the bar below) to edit the image. Then pick the crop/rotate tool (first on the left next to Cancel). This should show the image in the exif accurate orientation. If image is not in the correct orientation, tap on the rotate icon on the left edge of the screen until your desired orientation is set. Once all changes are saved, the correct/desired orientation should be locked in the exif data.

This sounds like a cumbersome process, but it is fairly straightforward once you do it. Think I have just been too verbose! Perhaps there might even be a video on YouTube that shows the process. If an image is a thousand words, a video must be a million :)

I've tried rotating and saving in the Photos app, but that doesn't solve the issue. The photos are shot on a Panasonic GX85 and inported from the camera using the Panasonic app, then rotated in Snapseed.

It displays correctly in both Snapseed and Photos... until I upload. I'll keep trying, thanks for the help.
