Leica M-E, 7Artisans 50mm f/1.1

I bought this lens when it was first announced. I spent some time adjusting the RF cam to get precise focus on my M9. I use it with a 1.25x magnifier. And I use it wide-open a lot.

It took some practice to focus on a moving subject.

Still subjects- easier.

Smooth.

At this price- I could not pass it up. A good lens to have in an arsenal, and about 4% the price of the Leica lens.

Price was about what I paid for my Canon 85/1.5, but that required a lot of patience and luck. The 7artisans 75/1.25 at $450 is amazing.

I brought this lens up to the Marine Museum at Quantico, VA. Lighting is constant, the subjects stay still, and the figures are made from life-masks and are very realistic. I have a lot of images from many lenses, ranging from the 1934 CZJ 5cm F1.5 Sonnar and Leitz 5cm F1.5 Xenon through to the new lenses made by DJ Optical.

Wide-Open on the M9. I shot pairs of photographs that day, wide-open at F1.1 and stopped down to F1.4. I did not need to adjust this lens for my M9: it was perfect.

Wide-Open.

At F1.4.

Tripods not allowed in the Museum- so all shots are hand-held.

Wide-Open.

At F1.4

The original "Circular Firing Table" that the Marine is holding was stolen, and the display had him just staring at his hands. I found another one and donated it to the Museum. That made the Korean War Vet that talked about this display very happy.

This lens settles down at F1.4. Close-up, wide-open at F1.1, Bokeh is a bit wild.
The way my hair looks now, I should do a self-portrait with it. Doc Brown looks tame.

Stopping down 1-Fstop between images.

Wide-Open.

Focus Shift. I used my fence post to mentally calibrate focus shift...
This is a typical Sonnar. The adjustable Cam allows setting the point of best focus as you want. My Silver lens- wide-open on the M9. My Black one, wide-open with a Y52 filter on the M Monochrom and stopped down to F2 on the M9.
