Sigh. And I spent my money on motorcycle tires and couldn't afford the trip to Montreal.

John: How did you get the glow in shot #2? I really like that look. #4 is interesting also, although I'd love it if we could see the guy's whole body and not just his torso. Do you do significant post-processing of your RD-1 images, or are they more-or-less straight out of the camera?
Guy: Your shot of Maïté at Passeport (on Marc's roll) is beautiful! I look forward to seeing the rest of your shots.
I'm dropping my colour film off today, so will be able to post the results in the next week. The B&W will be finished a bit later...

hey bj
thanx again for all your efforts over the weekend. you were an awesome host.
most of the images (if not all) out of the r-d1s have very minimal post processing. the r-d1s underexposes about 1/2 stop so some curves are usually in order. i pretty much scale focus everything on the street so on occasion i shoot real high iso thus better depth of field. soooo on the very, very rare occasion i run things through the ole ninja. but all in all not heavy on the processing. the fella's "glow" was really a result of the conditions. there were beams of light coming through all the gaps in the roof of the marche... i just stood there and snapped away as people came in and out of them. this one really came alive for me.
as far as the torso of the fella.... it's a good point. it try really hard to achieve a sense of style and put subjects in a relative context that speaks to me. the point of the image really was to place the fella within the huge and entirely "blocky" (is that a word) framework you see. i tried it with a few other shots as well with varying levels of success... i'll post some more tonight! i have quite a few of the mayor!
anyhow... can't wait to see everyones pics! the ones so far look awesome!

Well I didn't have much fun last night scanning some of my thin negs. I'll keep trying though. I'm guessing the key is to adjust brightness and contrast for each frame before scanning to capture as much info as possible? (My scanning ability is barely passible for normal negs; salvaging these thin ones is a challenge.)

John: The blocky context you were trying for was also evident, and adds interest, but the photo just makes me curious about the rest of the guy. How baggy are his pants? What type of shoes is he wearing? He's obviously leaning against the meter sign; how is he standing?emraphoto said:hey bj

he was sort of standing like the pack of friends he had who were wondering the hell i was doing... kind of a "hmmm.... should we kick his a**" kind of look to it. luckily i am a very fast walker.

I don't think they were going to kick your ass. More likely, they were thinking "Hey, isn't that a Leica?"

Marc, I really like B&W Ilford shots - all from,, photography about taking photography'' set , and almost everything from model shots

I really like the results I got from the XP2. I had tried it only once before and was not too impressed. I guess the conditions were just not right. These 3 rolls came out beautifully. I think I will adopt it as my main film from now on.
I know about the hands. I shot them fast and was so close the VF was definitely not precise. Besides, I thought it wouldn't be too bad anyway. More of a snaphsot look...

Oh, yes, one day, when people shoot 100% digital, many of them will miss this pure, classic B&W feeling .

FrankS said:Here is one of mine. Since the negs were underdeveloped (my fault) and thin, I figured to just go with that effect.
(If anyone has scanning tips for thin negs, please PM me.)
What do you mean by "thin"?
