In the new release of the digital journalist is a nice gallery of images from china. After the good response Remy got for his pics from mongolia, I thought some of you maybe interested.

I like the style those images have. They're looking so 'lowtech' :) .

The photos look like they were taken with a *broken* Holga :)
Some very nice shots, though...

Beautiful shots. I like the low tech and low key style. It lends an understated presence to some of the photographs. Some of these could have been taken at the beginning of the 20th not 21st century.

Interesting shots indeed. I wish Mongolia was more industrial and industrious like China, but perhaps then I might not be so taken with the country. For similar shots in Mongolia you either need to be already a familiar face in the industrial areas (or accept any risk going there could involve) or go way out into the small industrial settlements far away in the countryside (and take similar, if not bigger, risks). Even after all those years I'm still not confident enough to venture into the industrial areas all by myself. Them Mongolians are too big and strong! :)

I like the monochrome look (surprise, surprise!) but I'm not so sure about the (simulated?) vignetting. I think the photog put quite a lot (digital?) darkroom work in the "prints" to get the look they have.

I'm sure, because at this web magazine you can often read statements about how good digital ist, etc. ... the background is more or less professional there.

Some outstanding photos there, thanks for the look! But I'm not so sure the pictures are enhanced by the box camera look.

If they were shown in an actuall modern camera look (focused, a lot of greys between black and white), they were like a lot of images we already have seen. Maybe this way the images get more attention. ... Just a possibility.

I forgott a Warning The possibility is big, that this images are not taken with a rangefinder. :)

Nah Rudi you were just thinking out loud and I was obsessive about it. The guy does a lot of photography in the region and IMO has a very good eye. It's just I don't like the "muddy" look I guess.

Thanks for posting the link though - I would dearly love to visit China! :)
