Hallo Boyz en girlz...

Since we all know about new Sigmas digital SLR (compact with prime wide angle also comming) the SD14 is due soon! Sigma has just put sample images online, ( http://www.sigma-sd14.com/sample-photo/index.html ) check them out people, those are stunning! this is were whole digital wave should be heading, not towards megapixels and super noise reduction software! imagine this type of FULL FRAME sensor in M9? would be fantastic color machine! just look at samples, very beauty texture, excellent tones! amazing colors! superb!

P.S.
I have played around with this images in photoshop, absolut delight, the information every jpg has is astonishing, I can imagine the raw file (dante Level 9)

Photokina 2006: Sigma has today announced the interesting, unique DP1 digital camera which features the same Foveon 14M X3 sensor (2652 x 1768 x 3 layers) as the SD14 and a fixed 16.6 mm F4.0 lens (providing a 28 mm equiv. FOV). As a development announcement there isn't a lot more detail than this, a quick look over the body images reveals a large LCD monitor, pop-up flash and the expected range of manual controls.
 
sigma makes lenses to fit Canon, Nikon, a few others, and ... Sigma, but I don't think anyone but them makes lenses to fit Sigma cameras. Some of their lenses are pretty good ... I have several in Canon mount.

Thanks for this...I've been waiting rather impatiently for this camera for a while...
 
It looks like just an other huge, ugly DSLR. I suspect you're all drooling over tech specs and the Foveon sensor. It is fine technology, and I'd love to see something like it in a M9 (should one ever show up), but I'm just not nuts about another blob of plastic (sorry, polycarbonate) camera.

Sorry, I don't mean to come off a some kind of snob. I'm very impressed with this sensor and have heard great things about its capabilities. The camera itself doesn't seem to be anything groundbreaking though. Leica would be wise to license this sensor for an upcoming R10 or M9... yummy.

There's some nice shots there, but I didn't think the colour was that spectacular. I also noticed some banding on the stem of the red flower.

Its a shame really but I dont think sigma have come up with something significantly better than any well exposed canon or nikon 10Mpix plus raw file.

However if the compact version has the same sensor and would take an optical viewfinder - that maybe worth looking at in more detail......
 
I thought most of the images were oversharpened. At least that's the way they looked on my monitor. I'm interested in the DP1 though.

Just look at the iso values at which these images have been taken...

According to a 'Pop Photo' article, perhaps 2 years ago, these
cameras have a virtual cult following especially among landscape
& catalog workers.

Easy to see why.
 
FWIW, the foveon sensor won't work properly in a large RF type chip - it depends on the depth of penetration of light to distinguish R, G and B, and so with oblique rays, it becomes subject to color casts. Same argument as the cyan corners using the IR cut filters on the M8, but much harder to deal with.

There may be a tech fix for this, but I've never heard of it. This is why the foveon sensors are 1.7x crop factor.

I'm not very excited about it. If the sensor turns out to have better color rendition than the Canon 30D, it might be worth buying, but it's still just another low-end DSLR...
