As an owner of a 24/2.8 Elmarit M, I've always found the Leica accessory finder a PIA because invariably it beomes practically useless with accumulation of sweat, skin oil or fingerprints on the eyepiece when I leave it mounted on my camera. Taking a tip from the superlative Zeiss finders, I simply glued a 6mm thick black rubber washer measuring 21mm across with a 14mm opening to the back of the finder. Even with my eyeglasses, there's enough eye relief to comfortably see the reflected frame lines! What's more, the image appears brighter and clearer because of the absence of smudges and the shading effect of the black rubber washer. It's now impossible to dirty the finder's eyepiece with an inadvertant fingerprint because of the depth and small opening size of the washer. The finder's large front rarely gets very dirty because the prime lens keeps thing away from the front mid-section of the camera.
