In fact it is not a big discoveries, juat a small trick to enlarging the "yellow spot" in the view finder.
Many of us also think that Fed 5 is very difficult to focus because the "yellow spot" is too small. I realize that it is because to hole of the the metal covering is too small.

so I tried to enlarge it by drilling machine. just remove it from the camera

and enlarge the hole (diameter is 6mm)

and then put it back onto the camera

You can also make it in a easier way. The method is removing the cover only, but it will make ur camera ugly!😛 😛 😛

I done this trick in the early 1990s when I first got the Fed 5c.
I found that installing strap lugs helps to make this camera user friendly also.

This looks like a useful and fairly easy modification. Thanks!
Would it also make sens to paint the inside of the covering--and especially the edges of the cut out for the VF and the edges of the RF cut out--black to get a little better definition of the field of view?
xayraa, how did you go about adding the strap lugs?

All homemade, I made the lugs from 3/16 stainless steel bolts by shaping and drilling the shouldered end after cutting the hex head off.
trim the threaded end of the bolt to the thickness of the Fed's removable back, drill and tap the upper corner of the camera back,
screw lugs in to the proper position after putting some Loc- tite glue on the threads of the lugs.
the beauty of placing the lugs on the removable camera back is that if the camera ever dies, you can re-use the lugged back on another Fed 5, they are cheap to buy and plentifull.
( I should buy a digicam to provide the reader with some pics.)

Naaaah strap lugs will spoil the lines of the Fed, a federal offence?

You are more likely to get leaks out of the 👎ERC?

it will be very difficult to spoil the lines of the Fed 5.
anything you can add to it will most likely improve
its looks.🙂

no light leaks yet on any Fed 5 , lugged or not.
I find the Fed 5 the most trouble free FSU camera
out there.

I kow you love messing about in Fed and Zorki land !
