In Honest Praise Of The Smena 8M

I have one too! I always wanted to shoot a pic with me and camera in the mirror, and say I had a left-handed M8. Unfortunately my only mirror is on a cabinet with no room to try the cunning plan. The triplet lens works alright but won't frighten any Summicrons. The weather symbols are set to suit very odd film-speeds, probably linked to Svema film about forty years ago, but the adjustability works fine. As the article mentions it is necessary to keep fingers out of the way of the flyback shutter cocking-lever, otherwise there are no surprises.

I looked at the Lomography link and the pricing was eighty euros!!! The things are widely available from decent online sellers for eight or ten euros. A local camerashop even has Lomography Lubitel boxed-sets for 300 euros, though the guy behind the counter admitted that they hadn't actually sold one yet . . .

I have been thinking about getting one off and on for years, but I think I'll just hold on to my Argus C3.
