This is something I never thought it'd happen to me: dream about gear! 😱

I thought I was sane...

Last night, or rather early this morning, I had a weird, obssessive dream: somehow I had received a Leica Minilux, or purchased it for a really silly price. The only problem: I didn't have one single minute to play with it and try figure it out! :bang: Even though I had the manual with me, every time I sat down to read it (camera in hand), the phone rang, somebody knocked on my door, my wife called me, we had unexpected visitors, the house made some kind of weird noise, I had to go to the store to fetch something...

And the camera was incredibly big in my hands! 😡

Is anyone willing to admit to having had dreams like this one?

I dare you...

LOL, Francisco. I thought you WERE sane

As for me, these past few days I have been having a recurrent nightmare involving softies. 😉

I dream in black and white. Usually in grade 3 contrast.

Been sniffing too much fixer.

But seriously, there is a minilux in exc condition with case for $300 that has been tempting me for the past month or so. And it is still available. If you are interested, let me know and I'll point you to it.

My problem with the Minilux is that I feel pretty ambivalent about it. On the one hand, the lens, relatively fast, nice focal length, sounds tempting. However, the fact that the shutterspeeds stop at 1/500 deters me a bit. What if I load the camera with, say, ISO 400 film and it's a sunny day?

Sure... you don't do that if you have brains. But still... Even LTM cameras have a 1/1000 shutterspeed, don't they?

Oh, well. My dream may have been cathartic.

Yet, I have a Minilux in my watch list at the fleAbay. 😉

Thanks, Ray. I'll let you know if the temptation overcomes my will power!

Same situation with the Hexar AF, but you can use a filter with the Hexar. I don't know about the Minilux. I am sure it is a great camera, reading the recent thread about it. Ah, temptation...

They have little blue pills to solve that problem, Ray. 🙂

Because they sleep with old women.)

I used to worry about that with my Minilux, but I started using ISO 400 C-41 film in it anyhow and never had a single problem with overexposure. Not sure how it would do with conventional silver film. I only shot color in mine.

OF COURSE

I still remember my dream about a visit to a sort of 'Photokina'. There, there was that ZI cabinet where the ZI RF camera body and ALL lenses were priced at $250. In my dream I didn't have enough hands to grab it all, pretty much like when you grab a bunch of fruits in the marketplace 😀

Thanks, Richard! You sound serene and confident. I'm sure you don't have nightmares! 🙂 <cursor heading slowly towards the eBay link in my browser screen>
My cursor did something like that this afternoon, only it homed in on the KEH link and after some meanderings it drifted over to the "buy" button for a certain lens.....

I do have photo anxiety dreams, like missing a great shot because I can't find the shutter button.

The original ones went to 1/500th. That was the one that Nicca copied for the Type 3 that I just got. The one that I CLA'd in my dream last night.

I've never encountered ISO400 film overexposure problems with the Minilux at 1/400 and even the Hexar at 1/250 (of course the latter goes to f22 instead of f16). Don't these values just touch EV16-EV17 values, which is in full sun?

Anyways, the only dreams I've had of camera equipment were about people trying to trick me into parting with it..
