The real casualty of my skiing trip. My Digilux2 dropped on a stone floor- lens first from about three feet    The only thing damaged- that ugly plastic lens hood. That needed quite some Superglue, but the camera- totally unharmed. No protective filters for me. But I will always have a hood on!

thank goodness that gorgeous glass wasn't damaged (good thing there wasn't a rangefinder to knock out of whack!). ;)

Yes, I love thick rubber hoods such as the Hoya and B+W's. (Hoya's a little more.)

Thank ALA your precious survived and was unscathed.

This has been half the reason I've kept hoods on all my "working" lenses 95% of the time for over 20 years, and they've saved me both anguish and serious bucks more than a few times. I next to never use filters for much of anything, so having a hood on (rigid, of course) is to me essential.

That must have caused a little chest pain.

It also reminded me I need to get a rigid hood for my Summicron. The built-in hood is next to useless.
