In praise of my Voigtlander R3M and their lenses

So true indeed. My re-entry to RF was with Bessa T. I wish I still had it, and I'm still pondering the idea of getting one of the M series before they stop making them.

Yes and the results are quite nice.

My idea exactly: I just bought a new R4M to "serve" next to my R3A, R3M and R4A.

To me, a R3M and R4M combo make close to an ideal film setup.

The 1:1 finder in the R3M offers focusing with both eyes wide open and very convenient framing beyond the frame.

The 21/25/28/35/50 frame lines are the widest selection in any rangefinder camera EVER. Its a joy to use with 21/25/28 lenses.

The mechanical shutters work without batteries and are a bit quieter than the Bessa A series shutters.

YES SIR! And we know where to buy them. For now the R3M with a 40 mm and 90 mm lens is giving me full satisfaction.

Really? I guess I should have known that before I bought my R4A (used)...

It's not much of a problem though. My Bessa R had a really loud shutter, but the 2/3/4 series are all much better IMHO...

It's not that great of a difference. Try using a half case, it muffles the sound of the shutter a bit.

My first rangefinder was a used Bessa R2 my Dad gave me about 8 years ago. I was using a Canon DSLR then but preferred the photos I got with the Bessa and a small 35mm lens (Ultron) so much I became an addict. I now have a ridiculous rangefinder collection, including many lovely Leica bodies, and tow Voigtlanders I value - the R3M and R4A. I shall always be grateful to Voigtlander for introducing me to the RF

Here's one of my R3M taken recently with the new Nokton f1.5 I am raving about...

Beautiful kit.

I have an R2 and have been looking at the R3 and R4. Are there any major differences in shutter sound, handling, etc? I do have a problem with the R2's plastic eyepiece and my glasses; when they connect, the glasses can suffer. Any response appreciated. Thanks.

Love my R4A, R2SC and CV lenses. I just fixed the only thing that I did not like, the way the camera hangs from the neck strap. :bang:

I got a side grip for each one and now the camera's don't hang with the lens pointing almost straight up and bouncing around. At $45 they're a pretty good deal. A little work with a file and the part of the grip that blocks the battery cover will be out of the way.

HAPPY HAPPY

No differences that I ever noticed between my R2SC and R4 regarding the shutter sound. I like the rewind on the 4 better than the 2 but I can see the metering in the viewfinder better on the 2 than the 4.

To Mr. K., Thomas A. and Stephen G.,

I bought a Contax II and some lenses, which I love. Your R2C has made the perfect, rough country companion for those lenses when I do not want to scuff my camera.

I purchased a Leica II and some lenses, which I love. Your R has made reliable, rough country companion under the same circumstances.

You wonderful Nokton 50/1.1 graces my M9. Your anniversary Heliar Nickel 50s grace my LTM. Your VC Color Skopar 35s provide wide angle beauty for my M3, my Contax II and my Leica II. And now your Nokton 50/1.5 sits with class and taste on the front of my M3.

Thanks to you I can enjoy new rangefinders with old lenses and old rangefinders with new lenses. I have been able to indulge a few of my photographic phantasies without causing havoc with my retirement.

Please accept my sincerest thank you.
