I grew up 3 blocks from this train yard. When I was a boy in the late 70's early 80's, I used to play on Ol' number 16 on north 9th St., on the old BEDT property. As a kid that was really cool. Just wish I had the grapes to swipe my Fathers Minolta rangefinder at the time and make some pics.

I was a telegrapher-dispatcher on the Illinois Central Railroad, Kentucky Division, for about 15 years. We were among the last users of steam; the shops at Paducah once were among the largest in the world. The sound of a steam engine was unforgetable.

Wow. What memories you must have. How far away could you first start hearing the engine?

When I was a boy I used to play on the old abandoned Steam Engines in the Brooklyn waterfront; BEDT. I thought that was a thrill!
