I often see threads in which photos are included as a part of the thread, rather than as thumbs. What is the technique and what are the rules that allow this to be done?

You need to have the picture stored elsewhere on the net. You then need to use the img syntax to point towards it. I wouldn't use much more than 800 pixels wide otherwise it causes the reader to have to scroll to see the full width.

Kim, please clarify what you mean by "img syntax". I can't find a reference for that.

Put your photo somewhere on the internet and make a careful note of the URL.
Then post here and use the button at the top of the window where you type with mountains (or parhaps pyramids) on it. And take it from there.

old nick: easiest is to push the little "insert image" button above the reply message text box and paste the URL (link) of the image you want to include.
