Hi!
again a lens question from me :D (haven't yet tried to fix my J3, I've got to prepare mentally ;)

My question is: How to tighten the aperture ring on the I50? I've got three and prefer them over my J8's and two off them have very loose aperture rings.

thanks in advance :)

take your time guys.. it's only that I'm getting nervous -in fear of the lack of solution :D
the I50 is soooo good :D :)

I must admit that the I50 is one of the few FSU lenses I have yet to service (the J11 is the other) but if it follows the pattern of most of the others, there is no adjustment as such to tighten the ring. The resistance is normally from a breakdown in the grease. The J8 is the same. You need to dismantle the front part and reaaply the grease. A slightly thicker graphite grease is better than the thinner Lithium based ones you need for the focus helix's.

Hi!! I've got exactly the same problem with loosy aperture rings on I-50 and J-8 lenses. After reading Kim's post, I performed a search on "graphite grease" and saw it's a kind of difficult to find item. It seems has been substituted by a "molibden bisulfure" grease, but before going to the hardware shop to investigate, do you have a brand name for the grease you are using? I see you both are european located, so I think it is easier to ask for an already know brand, probably on sale in Europe, than an american one (got after googling for "graphite grease").
Thanks!!!

Hi,
The grease I use has an aviation ref number and might have something to do with where I work. ;) The best place to start looking would be a bicycle repair shop or failing that one of the better car spares outlets. If both of those fail, Microtools sell various greases but at about 10 times the cost of elsewhere.

Well, after a deep investigation both on the web and asking to some industrial hardware suppliers (also a pair of bicycle and car repair shops) it seems that the graphite grease is not a very known item on these latitudes.
Hopefully, about 200 meters from my job, I found a new Würth shop and asked them. Probably is not exactly what I was looking for, but finally I got a pack of "graphited grease MoS2 lithium based with adittives", which is a very thick black grease that should work on the lenses. (Würth product reference is 0893 871 1-F).

For any of you needing this kind of grease, drop me a line, since I got a 400g pack (the smallest one available)
