Couple of quick questions, if anyone can help:

(1) What size filter fits the thread on the aperture ring (I specifically want to fit a screw-in filter)?

(2) Are the lens elements in the collapsible and rigid versions identical? (I've a collapsible with (long-dead) fungus, so I was thinking of transplanting the elements from a rigid lens)

I.50/I.22 filters ~
Matt Denton posts the filter size as "11.5mm" which I assume is the inside treads of the aperture ring. I only have one Russian yellow filter that slips on the outside of the focus ring. Never use it, but I'm sure there are others. I've concocted a butt-ugly vitamin-bottle-cap-hood/filter adapter that slips on and shares my 40.5mm filters with J.8, J.12, etc. Looks yuck - works great.

Elsewhere Denton adds these remarks:
"Filter size will accept Kodak Series VI Adapter 36.5mm (1 7/16in.)" I take this to be the outside focus ring measurement.

Don't have a rigid, so I'm not sure about the glass... it seems I've read their identical - can't remember where I read it (or if I did) , so wait for others to verify.

These lenses take the Leica A36 filters designed for Elmar lenses. These filters clamp around the outside front edge of the lens.

They cost about $20 each. The are difficult to find. The Leica color codes are different than the Wrattan/Kodak numbers.

There are a couple of low volume distributors of NEW A36 filters. I just got a new skylight filter. They also sell UV filters. I wish I could remember who it was.

You can buy ONE Leitz A36 filter and remove the retaining ring, remove the glass, and replace it with the glass from Hoya and Tiffen 37mm filters. The Hoya and Tiffen 37mm filters are significantly easier to find than the multiple Leitz A36 filters.

Take one of the push on filters and knock the glass out, take a 40.5mm filter and remove the glass. Tap the push on into the rear of the 40.5 ,add a drop of glue , and now you have a filter adaptor. I use this system so i only have to carry one size of filters when shooting FSU.
