Brian Sweeney fixed my Industar-50 Rigid of the back focus problem.

I tried it out today... and I like the results.

Film is Trix-400 souped in XTOL, ei. of 1600.

Love that first shot. If they ever stopped making Tri-X I don't know what I'd do. It looks exactly like a B&W film should look. Good lens on your camera.

I like seeing results like this.

The I-50 is not hard to shim, amazing that even at a max aperture of F3.5 it makes a real difference.

Did you get anything back on the Hektor yet...

Brian, i am determined to do a whole roll on each lens...currently on J-8 on an Acros 100, and then for the cul-de-sac, i shall spend a whole roll on my ultimate heart-breaker lens, the hektor :) :) thanks again.

Brian,

I love the results from my Industar lens given to me by Johan!

The only thing is the aperture ring which does not "click" into place but rather moves about and I have to keep it on the aperture setting with a piece of tape.

Is there anything that can be done to fix this?

The I-50 Rigid, J-8, and J-3 all depended on a little grease to dampen and aperture movement and to hold in place. Also explains oil on the aperture blades on some of them.

On the I-50 Rigid, the optics module with aperture ring unscrews from the focus mount. The aperture scale itself remains with the focus mount. Try putting a little scotch tape on the aperture ring to get some friction with the focus mount. I've done that on a J-8 before.

I just shimmed the Collapsible I-50 that Ray gave to me- The focus was WAY off, required an extra 0.25mm shim installed. First time taking one apart, but it is almost identical in construction to the Canon 50/3.5 Collapsible.

Going out to test now on the M8.

Edit- added an extra 0.07mm to the shim, is spot on now. Also modified it by taking the infinity lock off, it was causing problems even with a cut-out M-Mount adapter.

A Sweenified I 50/3.5 rigid! What a sweet lens! I thought this to be a nice lens, & frequently overlooked. Not as good as yours, but here's a shot of my I-50 rigid on my Bessa R @ wide open on expired Tri-X souped in D-76. This lens hasn't ever been reshimmed. Glad to read it's a fairly simple job.
