Industar 50 scrape?

Hey guys,
So I'm trying to buy a fed 2 B body from fedka plus a I-50 collapsible. He's telling me that the lens won't work properly with the fed 2 because of the infinity lock pin scraping the camera.

Anyone have any info on this?

He is right, but you can always remove the infinity locking pin on the lens .
 
+1. My collapsible Industar-22 lenses, which are simlar to an I-50 will not fit on my FED-2 for the exact reason given. I have one I-22 which was modified by filing down the pin and two FED-50's which use a slightly different infinity lock. Those work properly on a FED-2.

I notices same problem when I tried to mount my I-50 collapsible on Fed 5B.

Agree with what has been said. Yuri knows his cameras, and he checks them.

Is that the only difference between the 10 an the 50?
I think I'm leaning towards just filing down the pin.
 
I'm going to be a voice of dissent here, just to be awkward.

I use the Fed 2 with collapsibles all the time. And yes, the I22 and I50 will both scrape slightly.

The fix is not to remove or file down the pin, however, but merely to file down the "slope" of the infinity lock so that the pin doesn't have to be pushed down so far for locking and unlocking the focus. It's soft metal and easily done. You might mar the paint on the Fed 2 slightly if you push down the infinity lock too far, but it'll work fine.

And the Industar 10, while better fitting, is much more likely to be a completely non-functional lens. A lot of them are pre-war and I've yet to see one that doesn't need shimming/adjusting to work on post-war cameras (even though post-war ones do exist).
 
FED-2 and I-22 for me: Yes it scrapes, and I also need to be careful when I collapse the lens. Both of them are beat up though, so I don't mind too much.

The flat spring infinity lock type of I-10s are all post war coated ones that register correctly on post war FSU bodies like the Fed 2

In fact this flat spring infinity lock redesign of the post war I -10 seem to be especially made to fit the flush lens flange configuration on cameras like the Fed 2.

Of course the I-10 fits the Fed-2 perfectly-it was the standard lens supplied with the camera. I have two Fed-2 with this lens and they are just as good as the I-22/50.

Yes that is what I been trying to say, here is my Fed 2 with the I-10 lens that is made for it and it is as every bit good as the I-22 or I-50 so it is not worth trying to re invent the wheel :)

Yes, but the problem is acquiring an I10 that was built for the Fed 2. Not all of them were, so unless you buy from Fedka (or similar), it can be a crapshoot. I think that if you're going the ebay route, you'd be better buying an I22/I50 KNOWING that it needs some minor modification than buying an I10 that may never work properly.

Plus - and this is an entirely personal decision - I find the I22/I50 aperture selector a bit easier/less fiddly to use. But that's just me.
 
Fellas fellas fellas, Yuri emailed back saying "it actually works nicely, almost no issues with infinity lock"
He's the man for taking time and checking it out. I'll post my thoughts when it arrives. But yeah I think the later the lens the better plus it's from fedka :)

These flat spring infinity lock I-10 lenses are not rare and can be bought on ebay if the buyer is provided with genuine photos by the seller so the buyer knows which type of I-10 he or she is purchasing.

Yes, FSU gear is always a crap shoot in the QC dept. so buying from a seller like Fedka might lessen the chance of getting a dud lens with no recourse for return and refund.

I agree, the aperture ring on the I-22 or I-50 is much easier to manipulate but for those of us who are use to the original 50mm Elmar lens it is a non issue.
 
So it came on friday, almost done with first role i wanna get it developed today. no scrape whatsoever with the I-50. im really pleased with it. although when i put in my I-26 it seams the rangefinder needs adjustment horizontally at infinity, but with the I-50 it's perfect.
