Industar Lens Too Tight, Toulouse.

Please forgive two dumb questions and one atrocious pun from a newbie.

I just bought a Zorki 1c with a standard Industar lens. The focus is tight (binding) in the mid-range. I removed the lens; the threads look OK but the binding persists.

At the same time, the extension tube is "toulouse". It will hold in the extended position, but just barely. When retracted, it flops in and out with gravity, as the camera is turned.

The body seems OK; the shutter curtain looks to be in fine shape.

What is normal? What is fixable? ... on this Industar lens?

Thanks,

Bill Rogers

first time I hear someone use the name of the french city Toulouse to say "too loose" :D So funny!

You got to see some sketches from Monty Python then! That's a classics.

You need rubber gloves and small pliers with smooth face, deep tray, zippo fluid and cocktail sticks!

You protect the near focus stop, a shoulder bolt, with rubber glove material and grab the base of the bolt with pliers and torque off, dont apply side force as the bolt is dinky and brass and the thread diam is way small. Pressure sensitive tape bolt to deep tray otherwise you will need another bolt.

Then unscrew lens from screw mount so you have two parts.

Then remove all trace on old grease and grime from male and female threads, Zippo fluid and cocktail sticks for residue, dont trouble to add grease the heliciod is self lubricaqting. If you can tolerate it dry, leave it dry, if you dont like it dry apply some (a real small amount of) PTFE grease. I use PTFE liquid (one small drip from dentsts pick) myself or leave dry, the brass is self lubricating any material will stick grime, PTFE less than mineral greases which like grime like they were superglue.

Then rethread helicod, it is multi start but only one start will allow infinity focus, you dont need to mark this is easy to find.

Then replace the stop shoulder bolt, rubber gloves as before, dont overtighten, if you are worried apply some nail varnish to final two threads and tighten up snug (quickly).

Write yourself a FSU cam mech ill certificate if you still have a one piece shoulder bolt.

Noel

P.S. normal I did the same instruction set for Zorki 1c yesterday... ignore the tube telescoping, get a 36mm cap, close case. You need a lens hood as well the Leitz 36mm is really nice but more then the $ for another Zorki...
