If the moon and stars are too contrasty at night, you can try using the moon's crescent or a bright object such as Sirius or Venus at dusk or at dawn when the sky is still blue.

Nowadays I normally go to a friend's apartment that has a clear view of the TV tower from about five kilometers away - that should be enough! 🙂

For of the RFs I have owned (except for the 2nd M8 which was way out) - Bronica 645, M6, MP, Hexar RF, 1st and third M8 - anything at (approximately) 50 metres + was at infinity and they all focused fine throughout the range. I now set infinity on my R-D1 using a chimney about 50 metres away and that seems to work fine too.
