i know this can be a passionate area for some, dividing us into 2 camps - the love 'em or hate 'em camps.
i happen to like them.

i am expecting a 28mm/3.5 canon any day now (really like last week) and it has had the doo dads from the infinity lock removed.
i am looking for the pin and the spring and whatever else goes in there so i can restore it to it's original function.

before i hit the net and check out sites for parts i thought i'd ask here first, just in case someone has a baggie full of chrome bits etc.

Not an expert but those parts probably will be hard to fine since the only way to get 'em probably would be from a lens that has been dropped or has super bad scratches on the glass.
 
Is there a chance that using an infinity lock from a collapsible Russian lens might work?

Maybe one of our FSU fans has a junk Industar 22?
 
i believe many shooters remove the locks because they don't like them.
i'm hoping they saved the bits and are willing to part with them.

if not, the repair places might have some.

I, too like infinity locks. I don't have any Canon parts, but I do have a disassembled Summitar with an infinity lock. I'll check it when I get home tonight.
 
Oh, I just had another thought (that's 4.7 so far today!); why not asked the high-priced talent working on your P if they have the parts you need? They might throw them in for free.

that's an idea too.

or i could wait and send a couple of lenses off (at a time) for a nice cla to each.
be nice to have a buttery smooth fcous and aperture ring.

actually owned a piece of the dark side many years ago.

I don't remember exactly how the lock on the Canon I once owned worked but I suspect it's unlikely that the parts from an FSU camera would work -- the Japanese parts have a better finish and are made of better metal, too, I think.
 
Sherry Krauter has the Canon infinity lock parts, will sell them. That's how I got one for my 35/1.8.

The importance of leaving on the infinity lock is that it gives you something to torque with to unscrew the lens from the camera. Without it, you have to torque the hardware in the helical that keeps the front of the lens from rotating, which generally isn't especially robust against that sort of abuse.
 
What is annoying to me is some CANONs have it (even later designs), others don't. The 1.4/50 yes, the 0.95/50 no. The 2/35 no, my 1.8/50 yes... but the newer ones no... the short telephotos no... and together with C/V lenses I don't like them at all...
