No, if you shoot it at all - filter or no - really, really bright highlights will halate slightly. They'll blow out even more than normally.

If you shoot through an opaque filter you won't get an image at all.

AND - remember that the "glow" is ONLY WITH HIE. The Konica and Ilford stuff both have anti-halation layers, and at least one of the maco ones do (the "aura" variant does not).

Again, the glow has nothing to do with IR.

I find that Rodenstock make a pretty decent 72.

I was, however, too poor to actually buy one. C'est la vie!

for $100 you can get a Cokin P holder with adapter ring of choice, _with_ a HiTech grad ND filter (very useful) and an 89b IR filter. I still don't see why people don't take advantage of that deal more often. 2filter.com

I have used color IR film for a while but no B&W IR film even though I have some in the freezer. Most likely, it is already messed up inside the freezer due to storage.

I have Kodak HIE that is at least 10 years old in my freezer. no problems at all.

Allan: This is good to know. I wonder who still offers developing for the color IR film these days. Years ago it was already expensive to get such developing done, and if it is still available, it must be even more expensive.

The places by me charge $14 and $16, respectively. So yes, quite expensive. But you can't replicate those colors digitally no matter what you do...
