Initial Actuations on new M9

What actuations have people had on new bodies? I got my M8 as a demo so don't have a comparison. However, my new M9 that I just got had 126 actuations out of the box. It's deemed new by Leica and the dealer ( who is great and very legit ), but I was surprised at such a high number. Should I be concerned?

I wouldn't worry if the camera is working fine.

Those actuations are probably from the quality control in the factory.

Would you rather have a camera that hadn't been tested at the factory? 'Cause if it was literally 'out of the [sealed] box', that's the only place it happened.

I bought a used M8 and ran about 50-60 shots with it to test it... tests at every speed, etc. I found the pixel line problem, stopped testing, and sent it back, but it seems totally reasonable to have 100+ exposures to fully test it.

Numbers between 50 and 500 have been reported. It all depends on the amount of testing the camera has had during production. If it sails through it will have a low number. If it is returned to department during production the image count can run up quickly.

It's when they start calling it "Special Edition" you have to worry. I worked for a german car company years ago. Anything coming off the production line with serious faults was put in a pound and when they had enough cars in the pound they did all the fix jobs. Maybe changed some of the interior trim and even paint jobs on some them. Nice shiny exhaust tubes and then they a put a "Special Edition" or special name badge on them and upped the price to recover the "specializing" costs and sold em off to those wanting something to stand out from the crowd...
Now who wants a "Special Edition" M ? I bet the collectors go crazy for them 😉

Thanks to all the (useful 🙂 ) replies. Yes - I didn't expect it to be 0 ( being an engineer myself understand quality control ), but didn't expect it to be over 100 either. However, I am learning that Leica is a "real" camera company, not one that works like the mass production ones and this is probably another place where that shows. That's an interesting data point on the testing issue Jaap that the number depends on issues that come up.

You've paid Leica to test it until its right, the only difference between digital and a film camera is that it shows up in 'data'.
