The profile of the SD card slot and the cross section of the card, as well as the relief icon of the SD on the camera body are all clues to which way in the card should go. But those tiny details are not always easy to see. With four different digital cameras I find that the card goes in with the decorated face of the card visible from the front of the camera. It has made my life easier to have this algorithm.
