insult my camera!

Lately I have running around with my Leica R8 (igor) so when I have been asked "is it a Leica?" I can proudly say "yes!" sadly, that leads into a "it's film? How much does that cost now a days, it's gotta be hard to find" discussion.
Now I wonder if I walk around with my Lubitel or Kiev.....

Walking into starbucks with my Hasselblad, the first girl thought my camera was a camcorder. Then the manager pops out and notices my Blad and gets all giddy and asks to handle it. She's been saving up for one. It's those kinds of things that make me happy.

I've had a ton of experiences like these, especially while traveling. I once even commented on a strangers M4 + Some kind of 'Lux in Tokyo, he was French, and didn't understand either English or Japanese somehow, so i just said "Leica!" and gave him a thumbs up. Then he got it.

Shooting my T4, people are quickly saddened when I show them it is not digital. And also got a "That's so ghetto, can't even afford digital!" comment. Haha, oh boy..

Server: wow that's an old looking camera. Is it old
Me: no not really. Just looks classic
Server: oh ok is it digital
Me: no its film
Server: oh its film?! That makes it old!
Me: <polite service industry smile> haha I suppose so, guess who's not getting a tip...
