Insurance for M8

my next question:

Do u hav any insurance cover for your M8?

i reside in UK and planning to take "all risk" insurance from e&l (http://www.eandl.co.uk/camera-insurance). Anyone have experiences with them?

I think your answers will vary widely from country to country and company to company.

Here, in the US, with my insurance carrier, I've been told I don't need a separate rider for my camera gear. It's covered under "personal property" in my home insurance policy and there are no per-category limits (I asked specifically, as this differs significantly from other company's policies, which impose per-category claim limits, e.g. $5000 for photography equipment, $3000 for computers, etc.).

I can always pay a little more for a separate rider, and I may do that as my Leica set grows and gains (!) value. It'll require an appraisal and documentation.

Again, the answer will probably vary from country to country and company to company, but the primary reason I had renter's insurance while I was renting was to cover equipment I bring while traveling. My home insurance policy does the same.

Sounds like you should call your insurance agent and get the lowdown on your policy. Also important--find out from them what exactly they need to make a claim. Only once did I need to make a theft-related claim while traveling, and I knew then that I needed a police report from the local authorities. It's much easier to obtain while you're there than when you're back home.

Etherfarm is right: Ask your own insurance company, and find out what documentation you need to file a claim. In my case, I needed a rider, and I learned that the coverage was in force around the globe, not just in the U.S.

In the U.S., companies have been known to drop or raise premiums on their homeowner policy customers after a claim. If a separate policy for the camera and related equipment (computer, etc.) is at all possible, it might be worth thinking about.

It's also usually smart to ask about situations in which the coverage would not apply.

I have a separate “personal articles” policy on my MacBook Pro with zero deductible and I plan on taking out a similar policy on my new M8 when it arrives. It covers loss or damage regardless of cause.
