Interesting 4/3rds lens

Bored and surfing evilbay, I came across a 40/1.8 Hexanon modified for 4/3rds. Looks interesting, starting price $2 and no bids so far. As usual, no connnection to the seller etc

I'd get it, especially since you're in UK.
I have this lens and I use it on the Konica TC. Sharp, but not as sharp as the 50/1.7 and 1.4 brethren.

The conversion is supposed to be an easy DIY project. I intend to do it myself once I get a spare 50/1.7 🙂

Another cool thing is the form factor, it's almost a pancake lens.

I have been using both m42 and Nikon manual focus lenses on my 4/3 camera, with of course, the appropriate adapters. That system has the disadvantage of a relatively small sensor but boy is it flexible in terms of the range of lenses it will accept. My only slight disappointment is that it does not appear to be possible to get Canon FL mount lens adpaters for the 4/3 system (the register distance is pretty similar leaving no room, I surmise, for the adapter to be of sufficient thickness to bear the weight of the lens.) Its a lotta fun using manual focus lenses on digital cameras. I have recently been casting covetous eyes on Contax and Leica R lenses - both of which have the necessary adapters. I will eventually succumb.

I use old pre ai(s) Nikkor lenses on my adapted Pany L1. Sweet.

Like peterm1, I am unable to use Canon FL or FD lenses on my Olympus digital SLR. However, I am toying with the idea of getting an LTM to M42 adapter and an M42 to 4/3 one. No great advantage as I already have the Zuiko Digital 35/3.5 macro.

This sounds a good idea but do the registrations match? It would be interesting to use my Voigtlander 15mm and 21mm on the Olympus, it would give me 30mm and 42mm equivalent.

I already use a Super Takumar f1.4 M42 with good results on the Oly. Other M42 lenses have been rather disappointing, especially the wider ones.

Edit. I have found a list of lens mount registers http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~westin/misc/mounts-by-register.html and the Oly at 38.67 is nearly 10mm longer than the LTM at 28.8 so I don't see that it can work. Presumably anything with with a registration longer than 38.67mm can be used with a suitable adaptor. Shorter registrations won't focus to infinity but might be usable for extreme close up work with a suitable adaptor.

Correct, Mike: an LTM lens on a 4/3 body will be good only for close-up work.
