I really like my nylon Timbuk2 Messenger, would love to get the leather one here.

I like my Timbuk2 messanger bag, too but I do not get why securing the material should be funded in a way like this? They should just make a joint venture with Timbuk2 who will be producing the bags and put their brand on it anyway. Sounds a little strange to me.

It's like Freitag's idea, 15 years late and less good looking.

Sure, i agree, but a leather Timbuk2 messanger bag would be so cool...
If I had the $$...

I have a leather jacket but I'm not a fan of leather bags. The equipement is usally heavy enough and gravity seems to get stronger after a couple of hours.
I prefer the bag to add as little weight as possible. I had Lowe Stealth Reporter AW300 (black nylon) and currently I'm using a classic F-6 (black cotton).

I misread the title, "interesting BAD idea". Looked at the kickstarter page and though, this seems like a perfectly fine idea to me? Back to this thread to clear my confusion and it appears all my error!
Nice bags.

Nice bags.
Yeah, but being hand made in the US, they are more expensive than I can afford at this time, even though I want to supprt their idea. Maybe the cheapest option this time, and the messenger bag later...

I think a better solution would be for Timbuk2 to start allowing people to send in their own fabric like many other bag companies do for custom solutions. Used upholstery leather is a great idea, and those bags look great. I just cant see Timbuk2 doing this in any kind of mass quantity though. Theres just too many variations from their cookie cutter custom bags, would just cost too much for them to bother.

Little to say

Icebear,
I'm assuming that F-6 is a Domke. What do you put in it, normally? I've finally had to retire my F-2 because the holes in the corners of the outer pockets became large enough to allow a can of film to fall out. I'm finding the F-5XB to be often too small (but great for travelling with a light kit) and the F3X to be too large/deep. I really like the F-2's modular partitions but I wish they were scaled down a bit for the smaller Leica lenses; I don't carry a 180/2.8 anymore. How's that F6 been doing?
thanks

Yup, I was going to say the same thing. My Freitag from '99 is still going strong.

^ Yup, the one I have is the Dragnet, I think. They use recycled truck tarp, seatbelt and innertubes. The one I have is the only one I have ever seen that uses grey seatbelting, instead of black

I'm not sure if they still do this, but you used to be able to pick your own pattern pieces from the tarp using a slick web app. Was pretty clever at the time...
Freitag is a really nice company. They are Swiss, green and they employ a lot of disabled people. I recently asked them if they had plans for making a specific camera bag...
"Thanks for sending us your input. It’s always good to see ideas streaming in from the «outside».
But as you can imagine, our development lab works on new products day in and day out. And we have accumulated so many concepts and ideas over the years that I am sorry to tell you that a "Camera-Bag" is currently not in the making and will probably not be happening in the near future.
But we have already heard from various heavy FREITAG-users that our F48 HAZZARD with his padded for storage. Maybe that would also be an option for you? Here is a summary from the online store: www.freitag.ch/F48"
