I shot this in new york, last march never got around to enlarging it until now, the whiteness of the glove really is interesting to me, has anyone ever seen a glove that white? i really want to know why its so brilliantly white. Any onther comments/ feedback would be cool, its the first time ive ever shared a shot.

Shot on my Fujigsw690II Illford delta 3200 (it was all i had left) f22 at 1/60 processed in hc110 dillution B at 67 degrees. Printed on Illford multigrade glossy

My guess is that the glove (as well as parts of the face) reflected enough light to saturate the film at that exposure. "Sunny 16" with 3200 film would be 1/3200 at f16. If you assume a nominal 800 for the film, then "Sunny 16" would be 1/800 at f16 or 1/400 at f22, which is a few stops away from what you used.

That's my guess, anyway. 🙂

This is what blown highlight looks like, and it is typical for push processing. You may try burning it in darkroom, there still might be some detail left.

Another reason is that Delta 3200 (and films of this speed) almost always has blown highlights and blocked up shadows. The super high speed films tend to have very poor tonality. As the other guys have said, the hand is white just because it is in the sun and Delta 3200 has really poor highlight detail, particularly when shot at 3200 or above.

I see very high speed films as stuff to be used when one does not care about locally blown-out highlights. Also, the negative might still have some details in the background that did not "fit" on the tonal range of the paper.

D3200 is not that high-contrast. I've found fuji neopan1600 at EI1000+ to be the real contrast champion in the high-speed league.
