There was an article in the San Francisco Chronicle today about Michael Jang. Worth the read, imho.

There is a link to his website at the bottom of the article. I really like his work.

His family snapshots are really, really great! I have a long-standing interest in the Asian/Chinese diaspora, especially here in the US, so his photos are an excellent, intimate record of "assimilation". Thanks for the link, Robert!

I'll confess that I find his recent color work less engaging: reminds me of Stephen Shore's "American Surfaces" in some ways: nearly emotionless, superficial, random shots. But his seem to offer even less in the way of color -- far more washed or bleached out.

Thanks for the link, Robert ! Interesting story and photos. On a side note, when looking at the photo taken of him, it looks like he carries a gold-plated Leica, or is it my monitor ?

Cheers,

Gabor

He does have a gold-plated leica. You can see it in his blog. nice looking thing. :D

Very, very interesting. I even like most of Jang's color work; yes, somewhat derivative of Shore's, but still with his own vibe and edge. Thanks for the link!

Thanks for this info. I've gone to their website and it looks like they have a really cool thing going here. I'll definitely stop in there on Wednesday, look around, and pick up the journal and possibly the book too. Thanks!

Go to Hamburger Eyes gallery in SF's Mission District... use the lab... meet Ray Potes...coolest guy on the planet...buy the book.

Here's the video, complete with Michael Jang...see where his heart's at.
