(warning: this thread is sort of pointless, and perhaps a bit selfish as I should just post my photographs in the gallery or elsewhere. but, I did want to present them as a series and didn't know where to, plus, I don't think too many people would object to posting pictures, right?)
As you may or may not know, I 'work' for the university (independent) students magazine, and it's something I really love doing: very diverse photography opportunities (although admittedly, I would like to do less portraits and more documentary photography, but oh well).
So yesterday morning we had to interview Bob Cools, better known as 'the mayor' even though it's been over ten years since he was the mayor in Antwerp. He was in charge of the city from 1982 (five years before I was born) untill 1994, and under his administration the city prospered and just to name one thing, became Cultural Capital of Europe '93. He's a really interesting guy and has lots of stories to tell. He's over 70 now but that doesn't stop him: two years ago he got his PhD (doctorate) degree at the university, with a work that touches probably the most important problem in current West-European society: immigration and integration problems.
Anyway, that doesn't really matter now. What does matter is that we interviewed him and I took some pictures during the talking. He had a tiny bureau in a tiny apartment in one of the worst blocks in a not-so-cool neighbourhood of the city: his career certainly hasn't spoiled him. I have some other pictures from before and after the interview, but I think these go kinda well as a series.
Technical - all shots on XP2, scanned on an Epson 4490. Taken with a Nikon F4s and 85mm f/2 AI and 50mm f/1.2 AI-S. Sorry, not rangefinder: I was planning to use the Bessa R and the 90 Elmar, but when I took my Bessa out of the bag it was kaput; shutter stuck - luckily I always carry more than one body. I have to say I really love the bokeh on both the 85 and the 50 Nikkor. Then again, I guess a library is a very welcome and rewarding backdrop.
I hope you enjoyed some of the shots and this thread wasn't a waste of your time and bandwidth!
