Invitation to M-mount lens flickr group

Wayne,

thanks for noticing the omission. I 'd greatly appreciate it if you would let me know what other CV lens tags we are missing (or alternative, if you could direct me to some source for these lenses). For the time being we only cater for M-mount lenses without adapter; if the experiment takes off then we could add the numerous LTM lenses soon after.

Many Thanks,

As I noted earlier, the missing lenses are all LTM. My bad.

Thanks for doing this. When I can figure out how to add photos I will. I guess this means I should use my M mount lenses more often!

I can't find the 90mm f4 rigid Elmar in the list, only the collapsible and "c" versions. There would be two versions, the original 4 element derived from the LTM lens and the 3 element or "straight sided" Elmar.

yes. very much so. Once, populated with images, you could find all images made with a particular M-mount lens, by simply clicking on the tag for that lens on the groups home page. A similar effort was made here (by Wayne I think), with the lens/image threads. A great setup for GAS-infected gearheads!

🙂

Points well taken- a noble endeavor indeed. Perhaps with enough posts we can start to discern certain characteristics associated with different lenses. I think (keeping fingers crossed) I've got my lens tags sorted.

Great idea!

Thanks very much for the words of encouragement my friends.

We just reached 100 members in what must be less than a day and half! (Hooray! 😀 )

Thanks for joining - keep posting. The pool needs to be beefed up by many more lens/photo samples.

I'm honoured to be part of a group that also has Moaan and a number of other excellent photogs as members.

I hope this helps me "step up my game" per se.

Cheers
Dave

Alkis - just opened a thread asking for ideas on best M mount lens to buy. I've looked on here and it's already helped me to see the results of various lenses. Great idea.

I don't know how flickr works but is there room for a small review section?
Apologies if anyones already posted this, am in rush to go out and haven't read the whole thing!!

Simon,

Thank you. I have to dash out myself - I 'lle get back to this at greater length when back, but the answer is yes, there is a discussion area right under the M-mount pool - anybody who is a member (and flickr can still be joined for free albeit with many membership limitations nowadays) can start a thread and ask any question they want.

Oh. Meh. I'll take them off when I have time.

Jon,

don't delete them. I suspect the optical recipe is the same. We 'll soon add VC screwmounts anyway (the rest of the LTMs will have to wait - they are just many too many of them for a quick inclusion) - when we do simply change the tag for the new one and leave them on the pool.

Best

A bump and an update.

We have reached one hundred and eight members and our library of photos numbers already more than four hundred entries.

We have been joined by a number of exciting flickr photographers, some of who have been mentioned in the threads of RFF - Tommy Oshima, Junku Newcleus, Moaan and many others. A number of RFF luminaries (Simon Larby, Todd, Ray and Ray, Vlad, to name but a few) have also joined and give this M-mount project a higher profile and a much greater substance than other groups that operate on the same principle.

On a personal note, I want to say this: as I check the stream now and then, I am utterly amazed by the quality of photos uploaded by the RFFers. If anything, our membership in this forum has also raised the standards of our photography.

Last, may I extend the invitation once again to all of you. One of the joys of this project is that it is a joint venture: every little helps.

Thank you, Alkis and Robert (and all others participating)!

Now that the concept proof took off: are you planning to introduce an LTM-mount group, too? 🙂

Yes, the idea is to add LTM lenses in the M-mount group as we go along. The modern LTMs from Cosina-Voigtlander have already been added (they were the easiest to add). Roland has very kindly provided a list of vintage Canon and Nikon lenses in LTM and they will be included soon. For the Leitz ones we will consult a couple of the standard references.

The difficulty with the the LTM lenses has always been the mind-boggingly vast variety they come in. Sometimes we 'll have to move on a case-by-case basis. But we 'll get there eventually 🙂

Dear All,

At long last our 'M-mount' flickr group is now ready to admit photos taken with Leitz, Nikon, Canon, Voigltander, Kobalux, Rollei, and Ricoh lenses in LTM. Thanks very much for your patience - and please bear with us if there are any teething problems at this stage with LTMs.

May I also warmly welcome Roland in the admin team and give my heartfelt thanks to Robert for putting the extra hours to prepare the LTMs. Special thanks are also due to Brian Sweeney for his invaluable help in sorting out the Nikon and Canon LTMs.

May I also remind all present and prospective members that all photos are welcome - but please remember to add the 'right' tags (a full list of which can be found in the description box of the group, as well as in the duscussion area). Our relentless f(r)iend, the Fdbot, cleans the pool twice daily. The sole criterion for deletions by the Fdbot is the absence of the 'official tags' (necessary for correct categorization according to lens).

I hope you all enjoy the group, looking forward to seeing your photos!

Best to all
