Ipad Mini

I would never buy a full sized ipad now that this one is out - the original always seemed a little big to me.
To be honest though, iOS feels quite restricted and outdated to me. I just recently switched my iphone over to android (sony xperia S) and I don't regret the move at all. Not sure I wouldn't buy an android tablet instead. The galaxy note strikes me as a great concept.

And quite on the heavy side. The Ipad 4 though was launched at the same time.

I'm still happy with my Ipad 2 and with the same pixel dimension in a smaller screen, I can take that anytime. My use for an Ipad is basically email when I'm traveling.

+1

I'm happy with the design and it's compatibility with everything I currently use. It will fit well into a smaller bag, a big plus.

Boy, I just don't know.

My first thought was that this never would never have seen the light of day under Steve.

But, I assume that this would be outstanding for field types -such as delivery, construction, perhaps medical (EMT), etc... The idea of using it as a smaller "photo bank" had not crossed my mind.

So, there does seem to be a possible "phablet" market emerging, and once again -Apple will be on the crest and likely sell a bazillion!

The refurbished Ipad 3 is $379 (16GB/wifi only) directly from Apple. If you don't need the form factor of the mini this seems like a better deal for $50 more.

I don't think the iPad mini works with cell phone towers, does it? Seems to me the utility of a portable device is compromised if you can't use it like a cell phone. One poster says he only uses it for email. Why not just use an iphone, then?

I have both and iPad 1 and a Galaxy LTE. I prefer the former. The Galaxy is supposed to have much better HW/Chipset and screen than the iPad 3. And yes Android is less restrictive, it has a file system, and is ultimately more customisable. But it is resource hungry, at present more bugs, and has a lesser quality feel about it. Its supposed to knock my iPad 1's socks off, but it doesn't. Indeed my iPad feels faster, smoother and less of an ordeal - it just works. Not to mention power consumption, even with all wireless devices turned off the Galaxy drains in a matter of days in standby. The iPad takes weeks. Our company gave us the Galaxy for use at work, as a pilot to see if it can be used as a work tool. Not one has kept using it after half a year, except as a Kindle device.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the Galaxy touch screen is a nightmare. Touch to follow a link, and half the time it selects the neighboring link, or indeed another link somewhere else on the screen. I know it most likely is down to the Android implementation. But would seem to confirm that at times there is an advantage to having one company take responsibility for the whole product, including the OS.
