Hi- The reason no app adjustments were needed for the smaller screen is because the screen still has the same number of pixels as the past full size iPads. So it all fits but appears smaller.

Looks nice this new mini iPad, but I only think that if one gets the 3G/4G model it should be possible to use it as a phone too (given the price). I know I know - too big for that, but with a bluetooth handsfree it could be just fine. It kind of overlaps with a smartphone and if one is not making too many phone calls (like me) it could make a 'normal' cellular phone or smartphone obsolete.
In other words - it takes a lot of cash to get both - smartphone and a medium sized tablet (in particular if one is after Apple product)
PS. Please correct me if that is actually possible (using it as a phone, that is)

What does this mean? All iPads have wireless capabilities.
Not all iPads have cell capability. The first shipping iPad mini is the Wifi model; those with WiFi and 4G LTE will ship in a couple more weeks.
The 4G LTE models also have GPS; Wifi-only models do not.

I guess you're saying it doesn't have the GPS antenna/chip built in, right? Because the MotionX app on my iPhone doesn't need either wifi or cell reception.

If the iPad model doesn't have GPS it uses wifi triangulation. Not nearly as precise. MotionX won't know where you are unless you have some sort of network connecton.

Okay, another dumb question...
Using the Ipad/mini, downloading movies works fine, right? What if you would like to hook it up to a larger monitor or TV screen for better viewing, is this possible?😕
BTW, will any model of these tablets download and play movies okay? Told ya it was dumb...but I am new to these things.😛

Well, I generally don't download them (i.e., store them on the iPad.) I stream them.
Netflix, Hulu, etc. all work great on all iPads. If you have a favorite network show, ABC, NBC have excellent apps. You can watch past episodes of your favorite shows...free.
If you have enough space you can of course store movies on the iPad itself, and then stream them to your TV using 'Air Play' and an Apple TV (slick and seamless) or you can use an HDMI cable and tether to your TV. Of course, if you use a Mac, you can just Airplay them from the Mac directly to the TV and not have to use the iPad to do it...
You may decide to archive the movies on your main computer, and sync only the particular movies that you want to watch, so they don't take up too much space on your ipad. For example, you are going on a trip, and want to watch a movie on your outbound flight and one on your return flight. Sync the movies to your ipad before the trip, then they are stored on your ipad for viewing anywhere without a network connection...

I believe you are wrong, but then again... I spend a lot of time in the Northeast Kingdom (VT) where cell reception is spotty. I use MotionX without wifi and often without a cell connection. (I get wifi only through a iPhone hotspot connection.)
I'm not in the NEK now, so I can't test my assertion.

I use Motion X myself. It will let you preload maps, but a network connection is required to download them...at that point, the question is, how does the ipad know where it is on the map? 🙂

Apple went on to say "Demand for iPad mini exceeded the initial supply and while many of the pre-orders have been shipped to customers, some are scheduled to be shipped later this month.”
The consumers wallet will make the final statement on the value of the "Mini" iPad. Apple's value to the image and computer world has been created by exceeding consumers expectations. Not to ALL but the those who it is in touch with on many levels. Which are the ones who buy their products and keep driving the earnings of the company.
If the company was wrong then it's products would not sell. Nov of 2011 the stock was $363 and in Sept of 2012 it traded to $702. All in less than a year. The technical correction now is profit taking and the expected upside for sales to Apple for the new product are being described as the following.

Retina display means the pixels are nominally too small to see. For an iPhone sized device, this means about 325 ppi. For an iPad (10") device, this means about 220 ppi, compared to the iPad 2 @ 135ppi.
The iPad mini is already a 160 ppi device. I doubt there's really all that much benefit to be had from raising the number of pixels and attendant processor power and battery size requirements. This is a balancing act. I'd rather see the new A6+ processor with the current screen.. Performance then would make it fly.

You can stream or store videos, play them at will. Stream to your television w HDMI cable or with an AppleTV. Easy.
Agreed. But the battery life would not be as long. I have seen tests posted that claim nearly 13 hours... 🙂 Doubt they could put enough battery in that small case to get anywhere near that, with an A6+.
The iPad 2, 3, and mini are quite fast enough, haven't seen any apps that make them appear even slightly laggy...
