The claim is that the A6+ processor is actually more power efficient. I think the main reason the iPad mini didn't get it was simply a matter of product development timing.

If they put 1G RAM and the A6+ chip in, PhotoRAW would run a lot faster. Right now it's pretty lethargic on the iPad 2; much better on the iPad 4th gen.

I think motion x will simulate a navigation session. I went to San Francisco once and thought motion x was working from airport to downtown but it was not connected to the cell service.

For a while it was pretty convincing. It could not have possibly known where I was.
 
From the iPad User Guide: "If you have Wi-Fi turned on, your approximate location is determined using available information from local Wi-Fi networks. iPad Wi-Fi + 3G also uses cellular networks and GPS to determine your location."

Agreed, downloading maps requires a network connection. But determining your position requires only the GPS chip set to acquire the GPS signal. The Overview states that "GPS requires a direct line of sight to communicate with satellites. Your iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS or iPhone 3G must have a clear view of the sky to locate at least 3 satellites in order to give accurate position information." No need for a network connection for that task as far as I can tell.

The iPads have relatively crummy cameras... no wait - they stink. The intended purpose of the iPad cameras is for Facetime and Skype. They would be my last choice for photography.

The newer iPhone cameras are significantly better. Other SmartPhone cameras are even better.

Well it depends, I suppose, on the definition of 'stink.' 🙂

The mini has actually quite a good camera. Certainly as good as many smartphone cameras, if those do not 'stink.' Would I use it for photography? In a word, 'no' unless there was emergency photographic need...and nothing else was available.

I will, however, use it to take photos of documents, etc. (i.e., more as a scanner.) This works quite well.

The iPad mini camera is a 5Mpixel unit like in the iPhone 4 and iPad third and fourth gen. Very good quality for a micro camera, although not quite iPhone 4S grade.
 
Next thing is you will be explaining how I can use the Ipad on my tripods for a softlight doing portraits....hint, hint....bracket/gels/etc.

It sure works nice for that. If you have friends with iPads and iPhones, get them all to install a free flashlight app and then you have a lighting kit with 'smart' light stands... 🙂

I gave my daughter my ipad 1. I was already mighty impressed with that display.... until retina. As much as I'm tempted by the size and weight reduction of the mini, I personally don't want to go back to the standard display. To each his own of course.

With the product cycles the way they are, there will probably be a mini-retina by early spring!

I ordered an iPad mini with a case. Delivery time: Three to four weeks. Fortunately they already sent the $39 case via FedEx from Shenzen with free shipping. That will come in handy while I wait for the iPad.
 
love the mini!
faster than my original ipad...perfect size to hold/carry, fits into my think tank retro 5 (even with the hard case on it)...easy enough to read...
my only problem now is figuring what to do with my original...
 
Not sure if they offer this in Canada but Amazon offers excellent trade value. They pay you with credit, so you'll require a need of something else they sell...
 
I like the idea of the iPad mini, but I think it is overpriced and needs a faster processor. Retina display would also be nice. But I really like the size. It will easily fit inside a Domke.

Guess I'll stick with my iPad2 for a little longer.

My biggest complaint about ALL iPads is the super reflective screen, which makes is close to impossible to see anything in daylight, even with the brightness cranked up all the way.
