iPhone 4s Sample Gallery (you should really take a look)

and i think camera phones are changing very quickly what non-photographer people think of photos of any kind. the i-can-shoot-photos-that-good-with-my-phone attitude is growing. what will it take by "real" photographers to impress the cell generation? looking forward to the first cell phone photo exhibit at moma ... 🙂
 
My iPhone 4 is my only digital camera. I have looked into buying an other good digital p&s but just like the iPhone 4 better. Simply because its a real point and shoot that I alway's have with me. Secondly its great fun to take and create images with it.
Either I shoot film or go all out digital where everything is done in the palm of my hand.
Here are some shots I took past weekend in Yosemite with the iPhone 4.

How many shot's stitched in these panos. I guess 3 each. They look quite good.

i agree with your sentiment about the phone being a real P&S. Just that point it and click! Although The ability to set exposure and focus point is nice. They are not gadget features but rather ability. Seems like you made good use of exposure control in these frames Or was it HDR mode? Just curious. Thanks.

I imagine they already have- meaning the MOMA thingy! I saw a Capa and Taro exhibit at the Barbican a couple of years a go as a small part of larger exhibit on "conflict" and another artist, whose name I forget, used a cell phone for some pictures of Iraq. They were blown up and pixilated- just like war! LOL!
 
Taken with my camera phone - Google Nexus S by Samsung. I am quite pleased with the image quality.

I've been quite pleased with my GalaxyS camera. I like the whole camera and and editor in one package.
This shot was cropped and resized in PS elements on my PC though.

Well, I have never dedicatedly checked out what kind of photos the high end phones can do, but am surprised. There was a comment above how these print - I would be curios about that too. If one could make decent 6x6" (or 15x15 cm) prints than I would also agree that I do not need more from a compact camera. And since I shoot with Ricoh GRDIII I am getting used to fixed focal length compact camera. Hmmm ...

Just that the iPhone 4s costs more than the GRDIII ... (well it can do more than just takes photos, I know)

Still - as I prefer to shoot film anyhow, I could imagine that in the future a phone could provide all I would need (if my affinity towards cameras like X100 or GXR will be cured successfully)
 
I printed a few pics 6x4 inch prints from my GalaxyS in a batch with other images from DSLRs and 35mm film scans (epson v500) and all the prints were fine. I was really pleased with the GalaxyS prints. Biggest problem for me is that I often just forget to use the camera on the phone and end up taking a Canon IXUS with me. I wish the phone had a flash though it's not great at higher ISOs.

I've printed some 5x7's from my iPhone 4 and couldn't really tell a big difference between them and prints from a 5d. There's a small resolution difference up close, but as long as you keep the highlights from the iphone4 photo in check, it's really very very good.
 
What surprises me most from Andy's sample images is the shallowness of the dof - I wouldn't have expected that from such a small sensor, even if the focus point was close to camera. The inability to have much control over selective focus was the main disadvantage I saw with tiny sensors. I'm genuinely surprised!
 
^ I wouldn't know about the iphone, but this thread inspired me to check my moms nokia n97 (with CZ Tessar 😛). That thing can probably focus on less then 10cm! And with that kind of distance, and carefully chosen background (like in those sample photos), it makes sense. Anyway, those photos look really nice (for this kind of camera), and this inspired me to try to use my camera on the phone a little more when I get a new one (probably not the iphone, though)
 
Just received tracking info that FedEx will be delivering my 4S P&S tomorrow. Oh my. I'll be sure to post pics. Anyone else expecting one?

Not if you're due for an upgrade it doesn't, that is, you haven't purchased another cell phone in the last two years.
 
all this talk of printing cell phone pics is making me laugh really hard.

not because the idea is risible, but seriously go look up Detroit Metal City number 48.

these look good. I want an iphone to replace my droid phone but not because of the camera. has more to do with support.

The pano's are about 6 shots each. I dislike the HDR function and am happy that in iOS 5 I can have it gone from the screen. If only the video and flash slider do be removed as well 😱

The Mono Lake pano is created out of 8 images all of them being long exposure shots of 8 seconds each.
