Hi All,
How do I get the max image size on an IPhone 6? Is it fixed to one size? I downloaded some images from my phone to my computer today, and the image sizes ranged from 2.8MB to 4MB. Is this the best I can get?

After looking around a bit, looks like 4MB may be the max. You may go to the Apple Support forum and see if anyone has better information.
It's normal for jpeg images to vary in file size while retaining the same pixel dimensions... it's a matter of different image content being more or less compressible.

Thanks. Maybe I am doing OK here then.

Yes, I have noticed that depending on the image content I get very different image sizes.

Thanks for the question Raid, and thanks for the answer Doug. I've wondered about that myself.

Dense images with lots of details result in larger sized images, Frank. Open skies and plain surroundings may get me 2MB.

If you turn them to mono/gray scale/etc. and/or crop them the change size too.
JPG size depends not only on the resolution but also on the complexity of the image (how often bits of color repeat).

The panorama images have larger sizes though.

I use two camera apps, ProCam and Shoot (both made by the same company). Both of them have the option of outputting to .tiff format, in addition to giving you more manual control over the camera in the phone.

Apple just announced that starting with iOS10 developers should get access to raw output. So in the weeks following the release of ios10 most serious apps should be updated to support that.

This is interesting. Thanks for the tip.

I use 645PRO, which saves to .tiff and give you bigger, more detailed files. Here's one, converted to B&W in Silver Efex Pro 2:

I may have to consider getting such an app.

It's served me well on my iPhone6:

I've been playing with this app recently. It has a lot of features and seems to do a pretty nice job:
Moment – Photo and Video Camera With Manual Lighting, Exposure and Focus Controls.
By Moment Inc.

It's also meant to work with their dedicated cases and accessory lenses, if you want to go that far.

RAW for iOS10 will only be available on the most recent iPhones: iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone SE. I think it's time to upgrade from my iPhone 6 as soon as iPhone 7 arrives.

Should we wait for iPhone 7s?

Waiting on Maitani
I like to wait for the S version of iPhones. With the S version the processor is upgraded - from what I understand S stands for "speed". I believe the 6s also upgraded the camera from the 6.
I haven't known about some the apps mentioned here - I use Camera Pro and SimplyB&W but will check out these others.
